Complete Your Independence Day Celebration with These 4th of July Desserts

Everyone loves 4th of July parties, as they feature great food, great people and plenty of fireworks. However, planning a 4th of July celebration takes a lot of work. You have to put up decorations, choose the right music, find a great independence day t-shirt to wear and make delicious food for everyone to enjoy. Grilling up burgers and hot dogs is sure to make guests smile, but you’ll also want to give them something sweet to complete their meals.

You could always go buy a cake or pie from your local supermarket, but why not give your guests a dessert they can remember? Below, we’ve covered several 4th of July desserts that’ll have guests remembering your party for years to come.

American flag cake

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a cake that looks like Old Glory herself? There are many ways to make an American flag cake, though most people bake a sheet cake, then cover it with white icing, red strawberries and blueberries. After baking the cake, let it cool for a few minutes before adding the icing. Once you’ve covered the cake in icing, use chopped strawberries to make the stripes of the American flag and blueberries to create the stars.

If you want to take things to the next level, you can bake three separate sheet cakes: one red, one white and one blue. Stack them on top of each other before decorating for an authentic American dessert.

Cobbler

Cobbler is a delicious fruit-filled dessert with a thick, crispy crust. You can make it with peaches, blueberries, raspberries or a variety of other fresh fruits. However, if you want something truly American, make a blueberry cobbler for your 4th of July celebration.

Blueberry cobblers feature several basic ingredients you can find at any grocery store, including sugar, butter, lemon zest and blueberries. To make the batter, combine milk, sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Apply melted butter to a pan, then add blueberries. Pour the batter on top, then bake for 350 degrees Fahrenheit for around half an hour.

Red, white and blue cupcakes

If you want a quick, simple and delicious 4th of July dessert, bake a dozen or so cupcakes topped with America-themed decorations. You could pick up some cupcake mix at a local grocery store or make your own with flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. To achieve the red, white and blue colors, simply add a few drops of food coloring to the batter.

After baking your cupcakes comes the fun part of decorating them! Top a few cupcakes with red icing, some with blue and some with white. Arrange your cupcakes in the shape of an American flag for an unforgettable July 4th dessert.

Patriotic Rice Krispies treats

You can have so much fun with food coloring. Transform a classic dessert into something patriotic by adding food coloring to your Rice Krispies treats mixture. In three separate bowls, mix together Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows and butter. Add red food coloring to one bowl, blue to another and leave the third as is. Cook your blue layer of Rice Krispies treats, then press into a baking sheet. Cook the red treats next, then press them on top of the blue layer. Repeat for the plain layer.

Once complete, you’ll have a patriotic dish people of all ages are sure to enjoy. For some extra fun, add red, white and blue sprinkles to the top.

Apple pie

What’s more American than apple pie on July 4th? When made from scratch, the delicious smell of an apple pie will permeate through an entire home. Make your apple pie filling with fresh apples, sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and lemon juice. You can find tasty, premade pie crust at almost any grocery store.

Mix your apple pie filling together and place it inside the pie crust bottom. Cover the pie with your top layer of crust, then press the edges together. Bake for about 45 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit and you’ll have the perfect apple pie!
