Restaurants That Support Our Military
Justin Humphries,
There are many easy ways to show patriotism, and to support our active-duty military members and veterans. As individuals, this can be done by supporting military organizations, volunteering at veteran homes and for veteran fundraisers, and simply helping out a neighbor who's a veteran or a military member.
As a business, there are many things that companies and corporations can do to honor those who serve. Every year on Veterans Day, businesses across the country offer discounts specific to military service members. It’s a great way for our service members to treat themselves to something special! Restaurants, in particular, are known for philanthropic fundraisers to support our military and veterans.
However, what many people don’t realize is that there are many businesses—namely restaurants—that offer deals and discounts all year round. Here’s a look at some of them, and how they support our military.
Ways Restaurants Support Military Members and Veterans
Restaurant owners—whether small privately-owned bistros or large nationwide corporations—show respect for and honor the military and veterans in many different ways, and not just on Veterans Day. Here are some of the ways that local and national chain restaurants show support for our military members past and present:
- Support local veterans’ events
- Donate money and food to local events
- Hold military and veteran promotions at the restaurant
- Offer year-round discounts to military members and veterans
- Offer special deals on Veterans Day
Whether it’s a discounted meal or a fundraiser that culminates in a huge donation to a local veterans’ organization, eateries often go above and beyond to make sure military service members in their community get the recognition they deserve.
Restaurants Offering Veterans Day Discounts
Each year, more and more restaurants show their support for military and veterans on Veterans Day by offering special deals and free meals. Here are just a few of the restaurants nationwide that offer special discounts to veterans and active-duty service members on Veterans Day:
- Applebee's: Free meal from a limited menu for active-duty military and veterans.
- Chili's: Free meal from a limited menu for active-duty military and veterans.
- Cracker Barrel: Complimentary slice of the cake or a latte.
- Famous Dave's: Active-duty military members and veterans get a free 2 Meat Salute.
- Joe's Crab Shack: 20% off for veterans at participating locations.
- Mission BBQ: Free sandwich and cake for active-duty military and veterans.
- Red Robin: Free Tavern Double Burger and unlimited steak fries for military veterans.
Keep in mind that these are just some of the national chains that offer discounts and specials to military service members and veterans. It’s never a bad idea to call ahead or ask your server if there are any Veterans’ Day discounts available. Many times, there are!
Local Restaurants Also Offer Discounts
Local small businesses shouldn’t be forgotten when it comes to seeking out discounts for military service members! Often, local eateries and small businesses offer the best deals for our veterans and service members. It’s a great way to get a heavily discounted meal—or even a free meal or desert. Again, just ask your server! Most local eateries will also advertise their Veterans’ Day specials somewhere.
Civilians are Just as Generous
If you’re a civilian eating out for Veterans’ Day, consider picking up the tab for a veteran. Even if it’s just buying them a cup of coffee, the simple gesture of letting them know that you appreciate them goes a long way. Whether it’s a drink at the bar or the slice of cake they have for dessert, picking up the cost is all we can do to say “thank you” to those who continue to sacrifice for our freedoms. After all, what’s a few bucks if it means continuing to live in the greatest country in the world?
Explore Opportunities to Support Veterans
Restaurant owners and culinary-based corporations are continually taking steps to show their patriotism and support our military and veterans in many ways. If you’re a veteran or active-duty military service member, you won’t need to look far to find a discounted or free meal on Veterans’ Day. And, if you’re a civilian who wants to say thank you, it’s never a bad idea to pick up the tab for our men and women in uniform.
