What to Bring to a 4th of July Party?

Summer will be here before you know it, meaning it’s time to start thinking about your 4th of July plans. For most people, 4th of July plans include hosting or attending a party to celebrate this special American holiday. If you’re attending a 4th of July party and want to be the perfect guest, bring something for everyone to enjoy or a gift for the host.

Not sure what to show up to a July 4th celebration with? Read on if you need help deciding what to bring to a 4th of July party.

A homemade side dish

While some 4th of July party hosts hire a catering company, many rely on their guests to fill out the table. Make things easier on your host by offering to bring a delicious side dish. You could, of course, pick something up from the supermarket, but homemade food is almost always better.

Popular side dish options include potato salad, pasta salad and dip, all of which are easy to make with the right recipe. For example, making buffalo chicken dip only requires a few ingredients, including cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, bleu cheese, cheddar cheese and chicken. Other easy dips to make include beer cheese dip, jalapeño popper dip and guacamole.

A gift for the host

Putting together a 4th of July celebration is a lot of hard work. Show appreciation for your host by bringing a gift to their Independence Day party. Great gifts include a bottle of wine, candles and flowers. You could even bring a gift specific to the 4th of July, like a patriotic film or tiny American flags. Even something as simple as a box of fancy chocolate could show the host your appreciation.

Fireworks

What’s a 4th of July party without plenty of fireworks? If you want to bring extra fireworks, be sure to ask your host first. Chances are, they’d love for you to bring extra. Stop by a fireworks stand in your area and pick up some of your favorites. Grab some that people of all ages can enjoy as well. Some of the most popular fireworks include sparklers, Roman candles, rockets, fountains and cakes.

Fun games

No celebration is complete without games, so consider bringing a few of your favorites. Since most 4th of July celebrations are held outside, bring outdoor games like a bocce ball or badminton set. If your host has a pool, bring things like water balloons, water guns and pool noodles.

Some people prefer to stay indoors on a hot summer day, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun as well. Bring a deck of cards so everyone indoors can play a fun card game while enjoying drinks. If your friends like board games, bring your favorite. Just make sure to check with your host first, so you don’t end up bringing a game they already own!

A delicious dessert

Fourth of July celebrations could always use more dessert. Bake one of your favorite desserts or pick something up from a local bakery. Everyone loves desserts like cookies, cupcakes and pies. You could even bake a July 4th themed dessert, like an American flag cake or red, white and blue cupcakes.

Decorations

If you’re close with the host, offer to help them decorate. As mentioned above, putting together a 4th of July party is a lot of work. You have to prepare food, hang decorations, set up game areas and much more. Ask your host if they’d like you to show up an hour or two early to help set up. You could even bring a few decorations of your own, so the host doesn’t have to pay for everything.

Great decorations for Independence Day parties include red, white and blue streamers, America-themed tablecloths, patriotic wreaths and garden decorations. Run decoration ideas by your host before actually bringing anything.
