Ways to Display Patriotism
As a proud American, the matter of showing your patriotic pride is important to you. If you have ever felt stumped when trying to think of ways to display patriotism, there is some information you need to know. Here are the top 5 ways to display patriotism every American should add to their life.
1. Vote
When looking for a way to be patriotic, voting is the way to do so because our country was founded on the belief of a self-governing citizenship. There is no better way to be patriotic than to make your voice heard on voting day. While the majority of people vote for the presidential election or even governor, to actually play your role in government and patriotic responsibility, you should vote at all levels including local elections. There is no better way to be patriotic than to vote!
2. Learn the history
One of the less obvious ways to display patriotism is to know the basic aspects of the history of your country. If you don’t have at least a basic understanding of important aspects, such as the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, or other important moments in our history, you are missing out on not only a rich knowledge of one of the most interesting nations in the world, but also your ability to be proud of this great nation as a citizen. Its hard to be proud of a history you don’t even know.
3. Respect the flag
One of the easiest ways to show your patriotic spirit is to respect the flag. This means making sure it is flown the right way, such as flying it well lit at night, flying it right side up, and making sure it’s in good condition with no rips or tears, and that it is treated with the respect it deserves which means never letting it touch the ground, facing it for the pledge of allegiance, and never burning it unless for retirement of the flag purposes.
4. Donate/Volunteer
If you want to be patriotic and do something good for someone else, there are few groups in our country more deserving of your time or money than the brave men and women who fought to protect this nation. When you give time or money to charities for veterans, you are displaying patriotism while doing some humanitarian work!
5. Know the basics
There are a few basics you need to know to display patriotism. For example, you should have the pledge of allegiance and national anthem memorized. You should also know to place your hand over your heart during both of these acts of patriotism.
